The Rector of the "Babeş-Bolyai'' University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca, prof. dr. psych. Daniel David, was elected president of the Danube Rectors' Conference (DRC). According to UBB: "Prof. univ. dr. psih. Daniel David, rector of Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) and corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, was elected the new president of the Danube Rectors' Conference (DRC) for the next two years, at the DRC 2024 Conference in Austria (Krems), the positions of vice president going to Prof. Stefan Koch, rector of the University of Linz, and Prof. Nermina Hadzigrahic, rector of the University of Tuzla. Danube Rectors' Conference/Conferinţa Rectorilor Danubieni (https://www.drc-danube.org/) is an organization of approximately 70 universities from countries related to the Danube, founded 41 years ago in Vienna (Austria)". According to the cited source, the DRC Conference program involved the presence of specialists from DRC universities and other European universities, along with local (such as the Minister of Education, the Mayor of Krems) and European (relevant to the EUSDR) authorities.

Daniel David stated: "I am glad to have the support of my colleagues from DRC for the position of president, I thank everyone, especially those from Austria, for the proposal and those from the country for the broad support. DRC is an organization in which I am willing to invest additional time and managerial effort (and there are not many organizations for which I would do this, except GUILD - https://www.the-guild.eu/ and EUTOPIA - https://eutopia-university.eu/). First of all, because the Danube creates a region with specific historical, cultural and socio-economic characteristics, which can bring us competitive advantages, including as a country, DRC being related and involved in the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (https://danube-region.eu/). Second, DRC is an organization large enough to have strength in relevant decisions at European level, but small enough to have a common denominator with meaning and significance for all members." He expressed his joy that, among the six new members welcomed into the DRC, two are from Romania: the University of Bucharest and the "1 Decembrie 1918" University of Alba Iulia".

The UBB Rector also conveyed: "Beyond continuing the excellent work done so far within the DRC, I hope to be able to introduce two new mechanisms: (1) "DRC Label', for academic units common to DRC members and (2) promoting a comprehensive concept of excellence, which would harmonize all member universities, regardless of the academic profile assumed (e.g. advanced research, education, entrepreneurship, etc.). I will also try to stimulate greater involvement of the DRC in European decisions relevant to the field". The next DRC 2025 conference will be organized at the University of Tuzla, and the one in 2026, at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.
